You will never fully understand how your kindness towards myself and my son Will melted my heart. Anytime my family and I are in public we subject ourselves and our children to the harsh reality of how cruel some people especially adults can be in reference to Will having Autism. The judgmental looks, the rolling of the eyes, and the hateful remarks are sometimes more tragic than the autism itself.
Thank you for engaging Will in conversation and treating him as though he was any typical teenager. Thank you for your kind remarks to me regarding his behavior and my dedication to providing him with experiences within his community… Thank you for acknowledging your lack of knowledge regarding autism and asking such heartfelt questions regarding Will’s diagnosis, progress and future… And lastly thank you for making eye contact with me and Will while assuring us you will pray for us and our family….
You are the reason why we take a chance with every outing in public. You are the reason we continue to pray for acceptance more so than awareness. You are the reason my heart is a little more full, my outlook a little brighter, and my confidence stronger….
You guys made a difference in both of our lives and this autism mom will be forever grateful!!!
